Pau Gasol put up 14 points, 11 rebounds and seven assists in the first half as the Los Angeles Lakers defeated the Portland Trail Blazers, 121-96. Gasol finished with 20 points, 14 rebounds and 10 assists for his fourth career triple-double. It's his second triple-double with the Lakers.
The win propels the Lakers to 7-0 for the second time in the last three seasons. It's the fifth time in the last 25 seasons that they have started 7-0. Over the last 25 seasons, no other NBA franchise has started 7-0 more than twice. The Lakers are also the first defending champions to start a season 7-0 since the 2001-02 Lakers did so. That team went on to win its third straight NBA title (just as this edition will try to do).
